A widely anticipated showdown between two of the most star-studded teams in the Eastern conference quickly turned into a blowout. Fueled by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets jumped out to an early lead, outplayed the 76ers, and never looked back, winning 129 to 100.
Struggling Harden
76ers newly acquired star James Harden was playing his former team for the first time since being traded, and it did not go well. He never got into rhythm, finishing 3-17 from the field, scoring 11 points, 5 assists, and six rebounds. He also committed four fouls, and only shot two free throws, making both of them.
Embiid’s Continued MVP Case
Despite the loss, Joel Embiid played at an MVP level once again. Netting another double-double, he finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds. As has been the case in recent games, Embiid got to the free-throw line often, making 15 of 19.
Team Win for the Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets had six players score double-digit points and led from start to finish. Star players Kevin Durant (25 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, 10-17 FG) and Kyrie Irving (22 points, 5 assists, 5-11 from deep) led the way. Guard Seth Curry enjoys a very efficient performance against his former team, going 10-14, 4-8 from deep, and finishing third in the game in scoring with 24 points.
Ben Simmons Returns to Philly
Ben Simmons was greeted by the Philadelphia fans with a roar of boos. This was highly anticipated due to the nature of his exit. Additionally, after making a dunk in pregame warmups, the fans mocked Simmons by cheering loudly. It seems as if they have not forgotten the layup he passed up against the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals last year.
Standings and What’s Next
The 76ers remain in first place in their division with a record of 40-25. They travel to Orlando to take on the Magic on Sunday. The Nets scratch above .500 with a record of 34-33, they host the New York Knicks on Sunday.
