Caitlin Clark

Over the past five seasons, we’ve seen a lot of records in Women’s basketball history. Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu have provided fans with a treat. For the former, this year has been all about setting records. On Thursday, Clark set her most significant record to date. Fittingly, Clark hit a three from the logo to cement her place in NCAA history.

Clark unseated former Washington star Kelsey Plum, who scored 3,527 points between 2013 to 2017.

“You all knew I was going to shoot a logo-3 for the record. C’mon now,” Clark said afterward.

She wasn’t done after scoring the record. Clark went on to score a career-high 49 points in the Hawkeyes 106-89 win over Michigan. She now has 3,569 points for her career. With four games to go (not including the Women’s March Madness tournament), Caitlin Clark still has many records within reach. Including The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) large-school women’s record which was set before the NCAA era by Lynette Woodard from 1977 to 1981, in that time she scored 3,649 points. The NCAA record (both men’s and women’s) is held by LSU’s Pete Maravich who scored 3,667.

Clark only needs 99 more points to set the all-time NCAA record.

Not many players like Clark come around often. She is already the first Division I women’s player to reach 3,000 points and 1,000 assists. She’s continuing to grow the sport of Women’s basketball. She has become a hot commodity across the United States. Everyone wants to watch her play.

“Caitlin’s special,” said Stephen Curry, one of the players — along with the WNBA’s Sue Bird, Ionescu and others — after whom Clark has modeled her game. “The record speaks for itself, and it’s cool. From a scoring perspective, from a shooting perspective, just doing what she’s doing — she could pick anybody that she talks about in terms of being an inspiration. If she models something of her game after me, I don’t take that for granted.”
