The Chicago Bears and the likely No. 1 pick Caleb Williams seem to have mutual interest building between each other as it gets closer to draft day. The star quarterback seems to have no problem going to Chicago despite speculation that he’d prefer another destination.
“If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited,” Williams told ESPN’s Pete Thamel. “If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited. Speaking about Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense and defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they’d be excited.”
Williams also pushed back the rumors of him requesting a trade or not wanting to play in Chicago.
“I’m not pushing any agenda,” Williams said. “At the end of the day, the Bears have the last say. Regardless of how I feel, I’m not pushing an agenda of, ‘Yeah, I want to go. Or no, I don’t want to go.’ I’m excited for whatever comes.”
Bear general manager Ryan Poles said that he is still deciding what he will do with the first overall pick, but the Bears are widely expected to draft Caleb Williams and Trade Justin Fields.
The Chicago Bears also have an interview with Caleb Williams Wednesday night. This means that trading Justin Fields could be imminent if all goes well with Williams’ meeting in Chicago.
Williams stated that he will throw at USC’s pro day on March 20 instead of working out at the combine. Additionally, he does not intend to undergo medical testing at the combine; instead, he will do it during his one-on-one meetings with teams.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Williams will also speak with the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, New York Giants, and Minnesota Vikings.
