Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz who started the Russian GP from the first row will take the end spot this week. The Spaniard will take this grid-place drop due to engine change.

After Charles Leclerc got a new power unit in the previous race, the Italian team has decided to upgrade the engine of Sainz this time. And like Charles, he will also get a penalty as this change exceeds the allowed three engines this season.

The team said, “As was the case for Charles Leclerc in Russia, in Turkey Carlos Sainz will take a completely new power unit fitted with the new hybrid system. Therefore he will start from the back of the grid with the aim of climbing up the order to try and score some points.”

An engine upgrade is not the only thing happening at Ferrari. Mattia Binotto, team principal of Scuderia Ferrari, will be absent for the whole weekend at the Istanbul Park. He will be at the Maranello factory, focussing on the car development for next year.

Last year, Sebastian Vettel who started the race at the eleventh position, got a podium place of third for the red team at the same track. The race was tricky with the new surface and the heavy rain added to it.

But this time FIA race director, Michael Masi has informed the teams that “the entire track surface has been treated to increase the grip level”. The treatment talked about here is water-blasting, which regularly happens on tracks facing grip issue, such as Singapore.

With Mercedes also thinking about changing the power units of Lewis Hamilton’s car, it’ll be interesting to watch the last spots of the grid before the lights go out.
