The Carolina Panthers hold the No. 1 pick, and their potential selection in Alabama quarterback Bryce Young will be visiting Charlotte Tuesday for a top 30 pick visit.
Young was the favorite to be drafted with the top pick before the Panthers traded up to No. 1, but the odds are shifting in Young’s favor. As time has passed, the first selection seems to be a toss-up between Young and C.J. Stroud. Stroud has been considered the safe pick, but Young has the highest ceiling. If Young didn’t have height concerns, there wouldn’t be a doubt about who’d go at No. 1. Many scouts have compared Young to a smaller Patrick Mahomes, as Young is elusive in and out of the pocket with the capability of throwing on the run.
As a starter for the Crimson Tide, Young has been nothing short of spectacular with winning the Hiseman his first year as a starting. Young threw for 4,872 passing yards and 47 touchdowns in 2021. Young was already considered the best prospect in this draft after his 2021 season. He then passed for 3,328 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2022. Young dealt with a nagging shoulder injury and missed three games. His collegiate total rushing yardage of 162 yards doesn’t tell the whole story, as Young is mobile outside the pocket and has shown off his creativity with difficult throws on the run.
When it comes down to it, Young is the quarterback to take to lead a system and standout with his off-script plays, while Stroud is a better plug-and-play quarterback. The Panthers have struggled to find their franchise quarterback since Cam Newton, and if they want a dynamic quarterback with the highest ceiling to be the offense in Carolina, Bryce Young is the pick.
