On Monday Morning, Chase Young, formerly of the Washington Commanders, and more recently of the San Fransisco 49ers, has signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints. The deal that Young and the Saints have agreed to is a one-year fully guaranteed $13 million contract.
The former Defensive Rookie of the Year and 2021 pro-bowler is entering season number five of his career. However, over those five seasons, he has played in just 43 games. During 2021 he was limited to only nine games played, and in 2022 was limited to just 3 games. In the two full seasons he has played, he has been very productive. In those two seasons, he accumulated seven and a half sacks in each of them. He also accrued 69 total tackles in those seasons.
Before being selected with the second overall pick by the Washington Commanders, Chase Young was a star at Ohio State University. In his three seasons as a Buckeye, Young had a total of 30.5 sacks, 60 tackles, 40.5 tackles for loss, and nine forced fumbles.
After a promising rookie season, Young was limited to a total of 12 games over the next two seasons. Then, in 2023 he was off to a good start with five sacks over the first seven games. However, later in 2023, he was traded to the San Fransisco 49ers.
It was reported that on Monday, March 18, Chase Young would be visiting with the Saints. It appears that the visit went well for all parties involved. Chase Young will be leaving New Orleans with a $13 million fully guaranteed contract signed. He will now be lining up on the same defensive line as Cameron Jordan, who has been terrorizing NFC South quarterbacks for years. These two together should be exciting to watch. The defensive line also includes Carl Granderson, who finished 2023 as the team sack leader with eight and a half sacks. This should be an elite defensive line in 2024.
