Chicago White Sox
Joe Nicholson – USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs and White Sox have always fought for the fans of Chicago. It’s been back and forth for many years until 2005 when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005 and the fans love the Sox. It changed again when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016 and it switch back to them. Could we see a huge shift in fans this year?

White Sox Season

The White Sox went from winning the World Series in 2005 to being the one of the worst teams in baseball. That making the Chicago baseball fans leave them and go back to the Cubs. It now seems that the White Sox have the team to win another World Series. The White Sox are one of the best teams in baseball this season. They are also winning their division by over 15 games. The White Sox are also in the top teams in the whole MLB. It not just their record that is bring the fans, it is also the players they have. Tim Anderson and José Abreu just to name a few, have given fans hope for the team.

Chicago Cubs Season

The Cubs won the World Series in 2016 and have been the playoffs from 2015 to 2018. The Chicago baseball fans switched over to the Cubs because they finally looked like a team that was going to be great from many years to come. It was cut short though, when the Cubs had an 11-game losing streak about 3 weeks before the all-star break. If that did not lose the fans, then the trading of Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Javy Báez lost them the fans. If the Cubs do not make a change then they might lose more fans than anyone would expect.

In an article from Bleedcubbieblue.com, “We stand, I believe, at a possible crossroads in time where the White Sox have a chance to hugely increase their popularity in Chicago, perhaps at the expense of the Cubs.” The White Sox have shown Chicago what it means to have a winning baseball team again. It is not just a lucky year, but a team that is winning in dominate fashion. It will be a huge change in Chicago if the Cubs do not figure things out. Baseball in Chicago may never be the same after this year.
