The White Sox are another team that fell below their expectations in 2022. After the season, Tony La Russa retired and Pedro Grifol was named the manager. Check out our Chicago White Sox 2023 Preview:

The biggest storyline that came out of the White Sox offseason was Liam Hendriks being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. All we can do with that is hope he kicks cancer in the shadows and makes a return to the MLB at some point in 2023 or 2024. The White Sox did add Mike Clevinger to their rotation. He should be able to replace Johnny Cueto and produce more consistency.

On the offensice side, the White Sox lost more than they gained. They added Andrew Benintendi but lost both Jose Abreu and AJ Pollock. Though, the lineup still looks deep enough that the White Sox could win around 80-90 games. We have them projected to 88-74.

Three storylines to watch in Spring Training:

Grifol at the helm

The former Kansas City Royals bench coach has been part of two American League Pennant winning and World Series championship teams. He’ll be looking to bring that championship pedigree over to Chicago, and help make sure this roster doesn’t head towards a rebuild.

Will Oscar Colas make the 40-man roster?

The White Sox have somewhat of a void in their lineup. Gavin Sheets is currently projected to be the everyday right fielder, but he might fit better off the bench. The No.2 prospect in the White Sox farm system is not currently on the 40-man roster but he plowed his way through the minor league ranks last season, hitting well above .300 at every level.

Collective Bounce Back

Much of this roster, is looking to have bounce back seasons. If they can do it collectively, the White Sox will be poised to make the playoffs in 2023. Especially with that third wild card.
