Breaking News: Christian McCaffrey has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2023 second, third, and fourth-round pick, as well as a 2024 fifth-round pick.
Christian McCaffrey
Despite the injuries the last few seasons, McCaffrey has been listed as a top-five running back across the NFL. This season he has proved that to be true once again. He currently has 393 rushing yards which, which is currently 13th best in the league. He has also added in two touchdowns, as well as 277 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.
The Pro-Bowl running back attended Stanford, so the move will be a return to the bay area. While at Stanford he was the 2015 AP College Football Player of the Year, and a Heisman Finalist. McCaffrey led the NFL with 2,392 yards from scrimmage and 19 total touchdowns in 2019. He became one of the best all-around talents at the position. He caught 223 passes out of the backfield in 2018 and 2019 combined.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers have had some health issues of their own, especially at the QB and RB positions over the past couple years. Bringing in McCaffrey, they hope to fill one of those holes. He should be able to fit in nicely with Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme that has seen Deebo Samuel get quite a few touches at running back this season.
Picking up McCaffrey is a step in the right direction, and could help the Niners get back to the Super Bowl, or at least into the playoffs. While, the Carolina Panthers are headed in the opposite direction after already firing Matt Rhule, and trading Robbie Anderson earlier this week.
