Through four weeks of college football, teams across the country are painting a clearer picture of who they are and what we can expect from them. This makes it easier to make lines for games but also betting on them.
Of the dozens of games in college football during week five, which have betting lines that stand out as winnable?
FIVE WINNING WEEK 5 COLLEGE FOOTBALL BETTING LINES
Michigan +1.5 vs. Wisconsin
After a close call over Rutgers, the undefeated Michigan Wolverines will have to prove they are a real contender on the road against the Wisconsin Badgers. Though I don’t see Michigan as a College Football Playoff contender, the Badgers are coming off a beat down at the hands of Notre Dame.
With good defenses, this should be a close game, just like the Wisconsin and Fighting Irish game last week. At only a point and a half underdogs, I think the Wolverines should cover and win outright.
Cincinnati -2 vs. Notre Dame
Speaking of Notre Dame, they host #7 Cincinnati. Though the Irish are ranked number nine in the country and undefeated, they have struggled against some inferior opponents. Last week against Wisconsin was the first time they played well, and it was close until the end with two defensive touchdowns to pull away.
Now maybe Notre Dame is hitting their stride and will show they are a top team and their wins over Florida State, Toledo, and Purdue wasn’t really who they are. But Cincinnati is a good team. Desmond Ridder and the Bearcats will be easily the best team they’ve played this season, and I think they should be able to win this game.
Ole Miss +14 .5 vs. Alabama
Alabama is pretty clearly one of the best teams in the country. But I think Ole’ Miss has a chance to put up some points with Lane Kiffin’s offense. Last season, they scored 48 points against the Crimson Tide. They just couldn’t stop them on the other side of the ball.
I won’t go out on a limb and say the Rebels will win, but I think they can score enough points to keep this within a two-score game. Matt Corral has been maybe the best player in the country to this point, so this is the game where he can have his Heisman-Trophy moment.
Florida -8 vs. Kentucky
I have had Florida on this list every week. Only once did I pick against them, and that was the week when they covered against Alabama. This week, I think they blow the barn doors off Kentucky. Since 1987, the Wildcats have beat the Gators just once, though that was in 2018.
Though they don’t have Kyle Trask or Kyle Pitts, this Florida offense is still extremely talented. Kentucky has struggled with some mediocre teams over the last two weeks with close wins over Chattanooga and South Carolina. Emory Jones and his offense will put up a bunch of points and walk out of Lexington with a big win.
Syracuse +4.5 vs Florida State
I could, and probably will have Florida State on this list every week. For a few years now, college football has given too much credit to the Seminoles. It is because they are historically one of the top programs in the country. They won a National Championship in the last decade, but they don’t have nearly enough talent to even compete for a conference championship now.
Last week, they hosted Louisville as favorites and lost. This week, it will be the same when they host the Syracuse Orange. And I am not giving any credit to Syracuse here, I just don’t think Florida State wins this by more than a field goal, if at all.
