The United States Men’s National Soccer Team will return to the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers on January 27th, 2022 as they are scheduled to face El Salvador in Columbus, Ohio.

The United States Men’s National Team is in second place with 15 points as Canada leads the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying group with 16 points. Led by Christian Pulisic and many other young stars who are playing in Europe, the Men’s National Team is ready to turn the page on 2021 and keep the momentum transitioning into 2022! After the El Salvador match, the U.S. will face Canada and Honduras.

The eight teams in the CONCACAF qualifiers have played eight of the scheduled fourteen games on the road to Qatar. The next three games will be played on the following dates: January 27th, 30th, and February 2nd.

Canada (16 points)

The Canadians have made a surprise run to the top of the table with 4 wins and 4 draws. They have done what is most important, earn a point or points in every match. The Canadians will face off against Honduras in San Pedro Sula, then the United States in Hamilton, Ontario, and El Salvador in San Salvador. Unfortunately, The Reds will not have the services of their star players Alphonso Davies. I predict the Canadians leave these series of games with a “Top 3” position but not in the first position.

Mexico (14 points)

One point behind the United States sits Mexico which has had two consecutive losses to the top two leaders in the table. Mexico lost to the United States back on November 12th, with a famous “dos a cero” (2-0), and lost to Canada on November 16th, 2-1. Mexico’s head coach, Tata Martino has heard lots of noise from the Mexican press and fans about his below-par 2021 as Mexico lost the Gold Cup and Nations League Finals to the United States. The next three matches will not only be important for the Mexican Men’s National Soccer Team but the deciding factor if Martino will still be around if the team qualifies for Qatar. Mexico faces off against Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Panama as the three countries are looking to land a blow on Mexico’s aspirations to a “Top 3” position.

Panama (14 points)

Panama is also at 14 points alongside Mexico but the goal difference has them in the wildcard spot for the moment. The team is coming off a 3-2 comeback win against Honduras and a 2-1 win against El Salvador to capture 6 additional points to their count. Many see Panama as a threat to sneak into the coveted “Top 3” who automatically qualify for the World Cup. Panama is set to face Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Mexico.

Costa Rica (9 points)

In the fifth-place position sits Costa Rica which has had its glory days past them by. Costa Rica is hoping to rekindle another World Cup qualification as a younger group of players begins to make up the starting eleven. Costa Rica is in a prominent position to move up in the standings as they face Panama on Thursday which will dictate how the table looks after Match Day 9. With a win, they can close the gap to two points behind Panama and then will face Mexico and Jamaica who sit two points behind them currently. This is the most important three-game stretch for Costa Rica and let’s see if they are up to the challenge.

Jamaica (7 points)

Coming off of a 1-1 draw against the United States, the Jamaican Men’s National Soccer Team will face Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica which are the three teams that are directly above them in standings at this point in the qualifiers. Jamaica has earned 5 of their 7 points in the last three games they played and is starting to show that they are a team that wants to take the next step in CONCACAF soccer. If Jamaica can win against any of their three opponents they will reach the 10 point mark and keep themselves in the conversation as a long-shot to the coveted 4th wildcard position.

El Salvador (6 points)

After earning 5 points in the first 4 matches, El Salvador has struggled with 1 point in the last 4 games played. El Salvador had an amazing start to the World Cup qualifying campaign but has cooled off and now faces off against the United States in Minnesota at Lower.com Field. After this match, the Salvadorians will travel to Honduras and then host Canada. All three matches will be tough for a hardworking group of players who will play every minute representing their country with pride.

Honduras (3 points)

What a disappointing World Cup run for a country that loves soccer. The Honduran Men’s National Soccer Team has only earned 3 points out of a possible 24 points and they are on their second coach for the qualifiers. Colombian manager Hernan Dario Gomez has taken the position and mission to help this team back into the wildcard spot which now sits eleven points away. Honduras is coming off a 2-1 friendly loss to Colombia as they prepare for the CONCACAF qualifiers. Honduras will face off against Canada, El Salvador, and the United States as they look to move up in the standings.

  1. Nice well put article. So sad to hear that the Honduran soccer team is in last place. But hopefully with these new soccer matches they’ll come up in placement.
