Connor Bedard is making a serious case to go number one in the 2023 NHL draft.
The 17-year-old is lighting it up in the WHL with the Regina Pats, scoring 27 goals in 28 games. On top of the 27 goals, Bedard has 37 assists bringing his point total to 64. Yes, you heard that correctly, 64 points in 28 games!
The North Vancouver native is representing Team Canada at this year’s World Junior Championships in Halifax and Moncton. Just when you thought his WHL stats were impressive, check this out.
Connor Bedard has 21 points in 5 games. 8 goals and 13 assists and get this, the tournament is not even over yet.
On Monday, Bedard and the boys north of the border faced Simon Nemec and the gritty Slovakians in the tournament’s quarterfinals. Bedard scored two goals, one in regulation and one in overtime, sending the Canadiens to the semis.
The game was 3-3 and a goaltender duel as both goaltenders were standing on their heads and displaying numerous beautiful saves. Finally, Bedard split the Slovakian defense and kept Team Canada’s dreams alive, scoring a filthy goal. This was his 21st point of the tournament and his 32nd all-time World Juniors point.
Bedard’s 32nd point put him in the history books as he passed Eric Lindros for the most points by a Canadian at the World Juniors. On top of breaking the points record, Bedard now holds the record for scoring the most goals at the World Juniors with 15, passing Jordan Eberle’s 14.
Team Canada faces off against the United States in the semi-finals on Wednesday, January 4th at 3:30 PM EST. This is going to be a matchup you do not want to miss as the U.S. is coming off of a red-hot 11-1 quarterfinal win over the Germans.
