The Cleveland Cavaliers recently had a season full of roller coaster events. Despite injuries throughout the roster, premiere star Donovan Mitchell gave his best effort and landed the team the fourth seed. However, once the playoffs began, Cleveland soon fell apart. They were stomped to the curb by Boston, and playmaking point guard Darius Garland was nowhere to be found.
Garland has typically been one to shine next to Mitchell’s star power and the rest of the crew. He is undoubtedly one of the shiftiest guards in the league, and he has a bag as deep as the best. He also has a level of court vision that sets him apart.
Garland’s performance is a crucial factor in the team’s success. When his shots aren’t falling, he relies on his exceptional ability to create opportunities for others. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers’ front office may seek a star player who consistently delivers more.
Several teams around the league will be interested in Darius Garland and his potential for the future.
Given his age and skill set, Darius Garland is a beacon of potential, attracting the attention of numerous teams around the league. He could be the second option on a championship contender or the first for a franchise looking to rebuild.
In 57 games this season, the former Vanderbilt Commodore averaged 18.0 points and 6.5 assists while shooting 44.6% from the field and 37.1% from three.
One team that may show heavy interest in making a trade is the San Antonio Spurs. They have plenty of assets and draft picks, and their front office could be searching for an all-star guard to pair with Devin Vassell and Victor Wembanyama. This trio would be a nightmare if San Antonio is ready to make it happen.
Other teams like the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers could make a compelling offer. In return, Cleveland’s asking price could be in the ballpark of star-level talent and multiple draft picks. This is reasonable, as Garland has the tangibles to reach superstar status at some point in his career. It is simply a matter of proper coaching, teammates, and patience.
