Cleveland Cavaliers Center Evan Mobley will re-evaluated in one week after suffering an ankle injury against the Celtics Tuesday night.

The team had already ruled out Mobley for the game against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. The 22-year-old suffered an injury during a dunk in Tuesday’s 105-104 victory in the third quarter. He exited the game using crutches, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported.

Evan Mobley missed 22 games earlier this season after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery for an injury in December. He has averaged 15.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 blocks, and a steal per game since his return from injury.

During his second professional season in 2022–2023, Mobley emerged as one of the top basketball defenders. He finished third in the DPOY voting, after being the runner-up for Rookie of the Year in 2022.

Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland’s standout guard, has missed the last three games due to a bone bruise in his knee. Due to a knee injury, Max Strus missed Wednesday’s game against the Hawks as well.

With little depth in the frontcourt and competing with the Milwaukee Bucks for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Cavaliers are facing a setback as a result of these injuries. The Cavs trail their Central Division rival by half a game as of Wednesday.

While JB Bickerstaff prefers Mobley’s health, it’s crucial to note their best season stretch began with Mobley sidelined. The 17-1 run was partly due to their schedule, but injuries also necessitated a big lineup and strategic shooting.

Donovan Mitchell, Dean Wade, Isaac Okoro, Max Strus, and Jarrett Allen make up Cleveland’s second-most-used five-man group, and their net rating is a plus-19.6 after 232 minutes of play. It will be a lot easier to go back to that lineup once Mitchell and Strus can play again since Mobley is out.
