The New York Liberty are building a mega-squad! With Sabrina Ionescu and the Liberty falling short to the Sky last year, the front office knew they needed to add to this team. So far they have gone above and beyond in doing so: With the additions of Jonquel Jones, Breanna Stewart, and now Courtney Vandersloot.

The former Chicago sky point guard, announce her signing with the liberty in the same way, that Stewart did earlier in the week.

The Liberty are currently the only active original WNBA franchise that has yet to win a title and with four all-stars now on the same team, they look poised to win that first championship.

Vandersloot, a four-time All-star and five-time all-WNBA selection, has been regarded as one of the best point guards in league history. In 2020, she became the first WNBA player to average double-digit assists. She has spent her entire career with the Chicago Sky, up until now.

Last year, Courtney Vandersloot averaged 11.8 points and 6.5 assists. Though with three other all-stars on the roster, she may not be needed to score as much. While Ionescu, can play point guard and did run the point as an Oregon Duck, she fared much better in an off-ball role last season. That’s where Vandersloot fits in. She can run the point, and allow Ionescu to remain the SG. Vandersloot has led the league in assists six times, averaging 6.6 a game over the course of her career, while also adding 10.2 points per game on 34.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

The details of the contract have not been released as the Liberty will have to determine a way to fit both Vandersloot and Stewart under the hard cap.

New York, which has been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs each of the past two seasons, will have its sights set on a championship in 2023 after putting together a star-studded roster.
