Throughout the entire day on Jan. 10, Oregon coach Dan Lanning was in talks to become the next coach at Alabama. Following in the footsteps of former mentor Nick Saban. There was a report by a reporter in Eugene who had “ties to the Alabama football program” stating that Lanning was in Tuscaloosa. That report was ruled incorrect and it appears that he will stay at Oregon.

At 9:00 AM, Lanning posted a video on his own social media stating once again that he wants to stay in Eugene. In the video, he stated clearly that he wants to be in Eugene for the long run: “If you’re scared your coach is leaving, then come play for us. The Ducks aren’t going anywhere, and I’m not leaving.”

“I’ll continue to say it until I’m blue in the face, I’m going to be here at Oregon. That hasn’t changed. That won’t change.”

A man of his word. Dan Lanning has stated that he doesn’t want to leave Oregon three times this season. The Oregon brand means something to him. The Ducks are heading to B1G next season with many good things in play. Their coach is committed, many leaders are coming back, they have some stars coming in via the transfer portal and they have a top-five recruiting class coming in.

“The grass is not always greener,” he continued. “The grass is damn green in Eugene. I want to be here in Eugene for as long as Eugene will have me.”

Lanning went on the Pat McAfee show to state that he was staying at Oregon as well, in fact stated that the rumors were a distraction for a short amount of time.

Every time that these rumors have come out, Lanning has come back with even stronger words to deny them. Now the program can be at ease knowing that their coach has shut down the rumors about Alabama.

With Lanning staying at Oregon, the coaching search goes on for Alabama. Other names were thrown into the mix after Saban retired. Those other names included Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and Washington’s Kalen DeBoer. Those two will become the favorites for now.
