After a sudden turn of events, Darius Slay is staying with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles top corner granted permission to seek trade one day before the tampering period began. Wednesday, he was expected to be cut after demanding a fully guaranteed contract. Ever since the Eagles were in conversations with Slay the whole day trying to bring him back. Nothing is official at this time but the two sides are expected to get a new deal done sooner than later.

Ever since the trade request, Slay has been very active on Twitter. Players from multiple teams have tried to recruit him. He responded by retweeting, and liking tweets suggesting where should be his next destination. He also responded by quote-tweeting Quandre Diggs, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Tyson Campbell, entraining the possibility of joining their perspective teams. Even called out some experts such as Dan Sileo implying the Eagles are looking to replace him after re-signing James Bradberry to a big deal. Perhaps the biggest tweet was Slay retweeting Marlon Humphrey just hours after announcing his presumptive release.

This caught the Eagles off guard considering they had multiple key free agents hitting the open market. Eagles bring back Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham, and Fletcher Cox all to one-year deals. This essentially guarantees the long-time core veterans to stick around for at least the 2023 season. However, they lost more than they gain. TJ Edwards, Javon Hargrave, Miles Sanders, Andre Dillard, Kyzir White, Marcus Epps, and potentially CJ Gardner Johnson are all gone. Coming off a brutal Super Bowl loss to the Kanas City Chiefs, it’s up to Howie Roseman to fill those needs in the draft as they have four picks in the first three rounds, including two first-rounders via the New Orleans Saints. It’s also up to young guys like linebacker Nakobe Dean and defensive tackle Jordan Davis to step up and play up to their potential. Regardless, Roseman is the right man for the job.
