According to the New York Post, Deion Sanders said that his sons (Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders) and Travis Hunter will only play for a select number of NFL teams.
During an interview on “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, the six potential teams he mentioned were: the Eagles, 49ers, Cowboys, Ravens, Falcons, and Commanders. Sanders played for five of these six teams during his NFL career.
As for the rest? You can count them out.
“It’s going to be an Eli. We ain’t doing it.”
Other Stars Who Didn’t Sign With Their Teams
Deion Sanders is referring to Eli Manning, who refused to play for the team that drafted him. In 2004, the Chargers owned the first overall pick in the draft, and selected Manning. He was traded to the Giants a day later and went on to win two championships.
Other notable players who refused to sign with the teams that drafted them include Bo Jackson and John Elway. Jackson famously took a year off to play baseball for the Kansas City Royals when he was drafted first overall by the Buccaneers. The Raiders would select him in the seventh round a year later. In 1983, John Elway threatened to play baseball if he was forced to play for the Baltimore Colts. The quarterback would then forge a Hall of Fame career after being traded to the Broncos.
What This Means For Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders
Both Sanders and Hunter are viewed as consensus top ten picks in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. Deion Sanders believes they will both go in the top four.
“Anywhere from one through four,” Sanders said. “One of them is going to be one. And the latter one will not go behind four.”
Both prospects are regarded as the top players at their respective positions. In the new era of player empowerment, it wouldn’t surprise me if both stood their ground and end up where they want to be.
