Derrick Lewis Arrested Before Fight Night 231

Fan favorite UFC Heavyweight Derrick Lewis was arrested for reckless driving just two weeks before his Main Event clash with Jailton Almeida in Brazil. First reported by ABC13 Houston, Lewis allegedly drove 136 miles per hour in a 50 miler per hour zone. In his last contest, Lewis defeated Marcos Rogerio de Lima just 33 seconds into the first round. That victory propelled Lewis into this Main Event Matchup in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Lewis was released on a $100 personal recognizance bond, with his next court date scheduled for December 27th. Lewis is already in Brazil with the Fight Night Main Event moving forward as scheduled. This is not a legal situation that will keep Lewis from competing. Lewis did not show signs of impairment during the arrest.

Derrick Lewis was charged on October 25th for driving his Lamborghini at a high rate of speed endangering other drivers. This happened in Lewis’s hometown of Houston, Texas as the UFC Heavyweight supposedly swerved in and out of traffic.

After driving past law enforcement officers at an alarming speed Lewis was charged with a Misdemeanor and will face possible fines. One of the most entertaining personalities in the sport, Lewis will more than likely laugh this situation off but hopefully “The Black Beast” doesn’t let it weigh on him mentally before the fight.

UFC Fight Night 231

Coming into a massive fight against a top-ten-ranked opponent, Lewis will have many questions to answer during this week’s pre-fight press conference. With 15 knockouts Lewis holds the record for most KO’s in UFC history. Lewis’s opponent Jailton Almeida (19-2) has won all five of his UFC fights by stoppage. Almeida originally began his career at 205 pounds before moving up to Heavyweight in 2022.

Undefeated inside the promotion, Almeida might be the most dominant grappler in the division at present. Almeida has 12 submission wins on his record and recently defeated former professional kickboxer Jairzinho Rozenstruik. This will be the second fight of Almeida’s UFC career in front of his native fans. Almeida enters the contest as a massive betting favorite (-530) at online sportsbooks. This Saturday’s Main Card begins at 8 p.m. CST. The Prelims start at 5 p.m. CST.
