The Seattle Seahawks are typically not a team that makes moves on the first day of Free Agency. However, this year that doesn’t seem to be the case as the Seahawks have agreed to terms with former Denver Broncos defensive end Dre’Mont Jones. With the 26-year-old landing a massive upgrade to his rookie contract
Though, it’s not official until the physical is passed. The Seahawks are reportedly adding Jones to a three-year, $51 million deal.
Jones has 22 career sacks and tied his career high with 6.5 in 2022 ahead of his first taste of free agency. In his career, he has 133 tackles, 22 sacks, 38 quarterback hits, an interception and two forced fumbles. Dre’Mont Jones isn’t perfect. He specializes as one of the top pass-rushing interior defensive linemen in the NFL but can struggle in run defense. The latter being the most notable void in the Seahawks’ defense last season. Regardless of that, Seattle is adding to a young core on defense. Seattle will be adding a whole new dynamic to a defense that heavily depended on two linebackers (Uchenna Nwosu and Darrell Taylor, each with 9.5 sacks in 2022) to pressure to the quarterback.
With the Seahawks showing they can still compete, they’re also showing that they are capable of landing some of the best free agents. As well as, filling the voids to make their team better.
More to come.
