The countdown continues, and we are officially 11 days away until the Carolina Panthers are on the clock. As the 2023 NFL Draft approaches, questions surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles’ draft plans are beginning to circulate. Historically, the Eagles’ draft philosophy has always been in favor of trench picks in the first round. With the team holding two selections in round one, there is a high probability that one of those picks will be spent adding to the offensive or defensive line. But with many needs, especially on the defensive side, it is hard to predict the exact direction the team will go. Here are three options at No. 10 and No. 30 that the Eagles could select in this month’s draft.

With the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select…

Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern

Returning to trench talk, rumors have been swirling that the Eagles could look to take an offensive lineman early, according to Philly Voice’s Jimmy Kempski. Here is what he had to say about what he heard at the annual NFL owners meeting, via BGN Radio.

“I came away thinking that offensive line is gonna be—I’d put that number one on my list of most likely positions they’ll address with their first pick,” Kempski said.

Skoronski fits the bill of lineman the Eagles typically target; he is a versatile player that offer usage across the line. Their last two notable offensive lineman selections, Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens, offered versatility at offensive guard and center. In this case, Skoronski offer similar versatility at the tackle and guard position.

Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia

Carter would be another pick that follows the general philosophy of the Eagles’ draft plans: prioritizing the trenches. However, Carter would be a splash. The once assumed first overall pick fell into some legal trouble, which ultimately led to questions about his character. He also had a substandard pro day that hurt his draft stock even more. However, Carter’s talent is undeniable. And it seems the pairing of a former teammate of his could be beneficial.

According to Adam Schefter, Eagles’ defensive tackle Jordan Davis was one person that kept Carter in line during their time at Georgia. If discovered to be true, the Eagles could roll the dice on his talent.

Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia

Smith inserted his name in top 20 consideration after an impressive display of athleticism at this year’s NFL Combine. Moreover, his name has continued to rise up draft boards after copious amounts of positive interviews with teams. One of those interviews was with the Eagles, in which he described it as ‘amazing’.

While the stats don’t pop off the page, Smith has drawn multiple comparisons to the Eagles own Haason Reddick. If vice president/general manager Howie Roseman is looking at pass rushers this draft, Smith could serve as a potential replacement for veteran Brandon Graham, who appears set to play one final season with the Eagles.

With the 30th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select…

Adetomiwa Adebawore, DT, Northwestern

Adebawore is another name that lit up the combine, displaying elite athleticism for a 6-foot-2, 281 pound defensive tackle. He clocked a 4.49 40-yard dash, which was the fastest time among all defensive tackles, and earned a 97 athleticism score, according to Next Gen Stats.

The Eagles have also been linked to the former Wildcat. According to The Draft Network’s Tony Pauline, the Eagles ‘absolutely love’ Adebawore. Here is more from Pauline.

“I’m told that Howie Roseman absolutely loves the guy,” Pauline said. “So Adebawore is one of those guys, and we see a lot of strange things happen late in Round 1. He’s got the measurables … he’s got the athleticism … he’s smart as a whip, I sat and talked to him for about 30 minutes at the combine.”

Like Georgia’s Smith, Adebawore doesn’t have the stats to match the hype, but that doesn’t seem to play a major factor in Roseman’s decision making on draft night. During Adebawore’s four-year tenure at Northwestern, he recorded 24.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.

Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama

Many believe that the Eagles could wind up taking Texas’ Bijan Robinson with their first pick in the draft. I don’t buy it. But twenty picks later? They could begin to consider the position.

The former Crimson Tide was electric in his one season at Alabama after transferring from Georgia State. In nine games played, Gibbs rushed for 632 yards and three touchdowns on 92 attempts. As a pass catcher, he amassed 350 yards and three more touchdowns on 32 catches.

That’s what is so enticing about Gibbs. His ability to succeed as a rusher and pass catcher typically translates well into the NFL. These abilities have sparked comparisons to New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, who the Eagles were once though to be pursuing.

The Eagles also don’t have the most solidified running back room. They brought in Rashaad Penny on a one-year prove it deal, but injuries have sidelined him for most of his young career. Reports have come out that the team is infatuated with Kenny Gainwell, but that doesn’t mean much. Drafting a running back in the first round would be an uncharacteristic gamble for the Roseman and Co., but the chance to have a talent like Gibbs’ on a cheap possible five year deal may be worth the risk.

Brian Branch, DB, Alabama,

Entering the NFL, Branch projects to be a safety that slots into nickel coverage. Accordingly, the Eagles just lost their best asset in doing that. C.J. Gardner-Johnson departed from the team after singing a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions. The Eagles are now in search for his replacement

There is one thing that jumps out on tape that all teams value: his ability to tackle effectively. Though, his athletic testing at the combine didn’t wow. Questions have arose about his speed; he clocked a 4.59 fin his 40-yard dash. Teams will speculate his long speed when matching up in the slot, but it’s difficult to tell how that will translate. The athletic testing, however, isn’t the only thing that matters. The way Branch plays the game can’t be put into numbers during testing. And for a team lacking what Branch brings, the Eagles could certainly look his way on day one of the draft.
