Jason Kelce retiring

By: Justin Gincauskas

After Monday’s 32-9 loss to the Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce told his teammates that he is retiring from the NFL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Kelce was visibly emotional on the field at the end of the game. Cameras caught him tearing up in the final seconds, as he knew he just played his final game in the league. The 36-year-old declined to talk to reporters postgame.

The news of Jason Kelce retiring is not a big surprise, as this is not the first time he considered retirement. Kelce contemplated retiring in previous seasons before ultimately deciding to finish his NFL career after Monday’s loss.

A Hall Of Fame Career

Kelce spent his entire career with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles drafted him in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He played 193 regular season games with the team, starting every single of them.

Kelce is only the fifth center in NFL history to be selected as an All-Pro at least six times. The other four centers that reached that mark are all in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Kelce is a seven-time Pro Bowler and has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the last five seasons. He was the 37th-best player on the 2023 NFL Top 100 list.

Kelce played a significant role in Philadelphia’s two appearances in the Super Bowl. He started all three games for the Eagles when they won the Super Bowl in 2018 over the New England Patriots. Kelce helped the team return to the Super Bowl in 2023, where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.

With Kelce retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons, he will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2029.
