Elvis Merzlikins Signs On For Five More Years
Elvis Merzlikins re-signed today by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He is receiving a five-year extension worth $27 million good through the 2026-27 season. Apparently he has played well enough to earn this extension.
Elvis Merzlikins has a 21-21-13 record with a .92 save percentage and a respectable 2.54 goals-against-average over 61 games with the Blue Jackets. This contract places him as the 13th highest paid goalie in the NHL.
Merzlikins was selected in the third round back in the 2014 draft. Some say, he can be considered an average goaltender.
Only four Blue Jackets players have been signed through the 2025-26 season. Merzklikins is now one of them.
General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen Is Excited
Per 1stohiobattery.com Blue Jackets beat writer Jacob Nitzberg:
“Goaltending is a position of strength for our team and Elvis Merzlikins has been an important part of that over the past two seasons. So we are very excited to have agreed to terms on a contract extension that will keep him in Columbus for at least the next six years,” said GM Jarmo Kekalainen in a statement.
“He is big, athletic and has a tremendous passion for the game. And we believe he will be an integral part of our success in the coming years.”
We will need to wait and see how well Elvis does this season. This contract should give him plenty of motivation to move his level of play upwards. Much depends on how well the team does.
