In the aftermath of the Russell Wilson trade, he leaves behind two extremely talented wide receivers in Seattle. On the other hand, he now joins a receiver room including Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton.

Looking at this trade from a fantasy football standpoint, there are some very clear winners and losers.

Winners

Jerry Jeudy

Jeudy was a top prospect coming out of Alabama, he was selected with the 15th overall pick by the Broncos.

His combination of speed and route running make him a real threat to be the Broncos go-to wide receiver.

In his first two seasons, Jeudy has dealt with some injury. On top of that, he has worked with his quarterbacks being inconsistent. Both in terms of play, and personnel. Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock are fine quarterbacks, but now the Broncos move onto Russell Wilson.

Last year, Jeudy only scored a total of 85 fantasy points. He averaged 8.5 points per game. Not great. Expect for him and Russell Wilson to develop some strong chemistry this season.

I see Jeudy finishing in the lower end of the top 20 fantasy wide receivers this next season with Wilson as his QB.

All Denver Receivers

Courtland Sutton, KJ Hamler, Tim Patrick should all have a better season next year with Russell Wilson throwing to them.

In some smaller fantasy leagues, these guys should have an eye kept on them. They could be used as late round draft and stash players with some upside.

Wilson won’t turn everyone into a pro bowl receiver. But, he is an upgrade from their quarterback situation last year.

Losers

DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett

Two of the top fantasy wide receivers last year, both were towards the bottom of the top 16 scorers in the league.

DK has been an elite/borderline elite wide receiver in his 3 years in the NFL. He has scored 29 career touchdowns already. Metcalf’s fantasy production will most likely see a decline this season as he goes from Russell Wilson, one of the top quarterbacks of the last 10 years, to Drew Lock. Who last year, started 3 games, and threw 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Tyler Lockett went for over 1000 yards, and scored 8 touchdowns last season. He is always a threat to have a huge game. Wilson and Lockett developed a great chemistry, and their games complimented each other very well. Wilsons elite deep ball ability, and throw on the run, mixed with Lockett’s speed, quickness, and ability to get open.

It feels like Lockett will be the one who suffers more from the loss of Wilson. Lockett will turn 30 next season, and will most likely see a decline in production.

Metcalf is a freak of nature at his size with his speed, and at just 24 years old, his decline in production shouldn’t be as noticeable as Lockett’s.

I would predict Metcalf to finish in the top 15 for wide receivers again next season

Lockett, I think may fall to the lower end of the top 20-25 wide receivers in the league.
