Capital One’s The Match will return for its ninth installment, with female golfers taking part for the first time in the event’s history. The LPGA’s Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang will join Rory McIlroy and Max Homa in the 12-hole competition set for Feb. 26 at West Palm Beach’s The Park golf course in Florida. The event will be broadcast on TNT, truTV, and HLN and streamed on the B/R Sports Add-On on Max.
This year’s edition of The Match will feature the first-ever mixed skins format. Each of the 12 holes will be worth a specified amount for charity, and the golfer who raises the most money by the end will be the winner.
About The Match Golfers
Thompson is an 11-time LPGA winner, and she has earned over $13 million in career prize money. She won her first and only major title in 2014 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Zhang, 20, is an up-and-coming star on the LPGA Tour. She already has five top-10 finishes and one LPGA win at the 2023 Mizuho Americas Open in her professional debut. In 13 events played last year, Zhang missed the cut just once. She won the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship with Stanford in 2022 and 2023 and spent 141 weeks as the number-one-ranked amateur in the world.
Four-time major champion McIlroy is the only golfer of the four to have experience playing in The Match. He and Tiger Woods lost to Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in his first appearance. McIlroy has 24 career PGA Tour wins and has earned over $80 million.
Homa is a six-time PGA Tour winner, with his most recent victory being in the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open. He has 31 career top-10 finishes and 13 top-five finishes and currently sits seventh in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The Match will be played under the lights, with a 6:30 p.m. ET start time.
