The 2024 Masters Tournament has concluded and Scottie Scheffler surges and wins his second Green Jacket. Scheffler shot a 68 on the final day to sustain his status as the #1 golfer in the world. On the way to victory, Scheffler birdied 6 of his last 11 holes to win by 4 strokes. This Masters Tournament was a win not only for Scottie but for the PGA Tour too.

The PGA took all of the top 5 spots, and even LIV’s newest member, Jon Rahm, had a tough showing shooting +9, with a score of+4 after 54 holes. This does not mean anything of meaning, but it does mean that the PGA wins the first of four majors. The PGA Tour having a signature event the week after the Masters is pretty crazy because tour members will play practice rounds just hours after the Masters.

Tournament Takeaways

The 2024 Masters Tournament was one of the best tournaments in recent years. Four golfers in contention with 6 holes to play set up for a great finish in this tournament. Now, having Scottie Scheffler win by 4 strokes did kill some of the hype, but it was a great finish regardless. There were plenty of surprises, including Ludvig Aberg, Brooks Koepka, and Max Homa. Aberg just finished his first major since turning pro, and it seemed that Augusta National never made him sweat.

Aberg was a machine for most of the tournament, and if he didn’t go in the water on 11 it could be a different story. Kopeka hadn’t played well in his last LIV event, but he is expected to turn it on during majors. Well, he had a forgettable week by his standards. Koepka was never below a 73 and shot +9 in the tournament. Lastly, Max Homa just played his best round at Augusta National in his four other starts. He was in contention until the very end and ended up finishing tied for third. One other note is that Tiger seemed to lose it after the cut when he shot an 82 and a 77 in his last two rounds.

Verne Lundquist’s Last Masters

One storyline that was highlighted at the end of this Masters Tournament was that Verne Lundquist was hanging it up after the 2024 tournament. Lunquist could be found on the par-3 16th where he would make some of golf’s most iconic calls. His call in 2005 when Tiger Woods chipped is one of the most iconic golf shots in history.

Jim Nantz bid farewell to his longtime colleague by saying “Thanks for the memories. Your voice has been a beautiful instrument. Thank you for a wonderful soundtrack for all of our lives.” – Jim Nantz

“Thank you so much, Jim. It’s my honor, my privilege.” – Verne Lundquist.
