We could be in for a treat with one of the biggest and wildest NFL offseasons of all time. Some players who weren’t expected to be released, already have been to cut salary cap. Although Saquon Barkley wasn’t cut, he’s expected to be a top free agent and here are the top landing spots to watch for:
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers might not be very high when it comes to landing spots for Saquon Barkley. However, they need a top-tier running back. Especially, with Austin Ekeler also being a free agent. It all depends on who newly established GM Joe Horitz and HC Jim Harbaugh see fit. They have shown dedication to a run-heavy offense by bringing in Greg Roman. Drafting an RB in the later rounds could be an option for this squad as well. Barkley isn’t against joining the Chargers either, he talked about the possibility on the Up & Adams podcast.
Houston Texans
The Texans exceeded their expectations in 2024, despite having a run game that ranked 29th in yards per carry. DeMeco Ryans vowed that that issue would be resolved this offseason. With Devin Singletary set to become a free agent, Dameon Pierce is set to become their lead rusher as of now. The Texans have $70 Million in cap space with not a lot of holes that need to be addressed. Adding a guy like Barkley to a backfield with C.J. Stroud could unlock something new in Bobby Slowik’s brilliant system.
Baltimore Ravens
Could you imagine LaMar Jackson and Saquon Barkley in the same backfield? It would definitely become the top rushing offense throughout entire NFL. The Ravens have had their share of injury issues at the running back position. With J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards set to become free agents, the Ravens can get a fresh start. A splashing move like this would be something that we haven’t really seen, but it would be a tantalizing solution.
Dallas Cowboys
Early on, I would not have ranked Dallas as one of the landing spots for Saquon Barkley. However, a report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tha came out stating that they were keeping their eyes on him. Much like the Chargers, Barkley would replace a veteran running back in Tony Pollard. The latter eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards for the second straight season, but they didn’t tag him.
Chicago Bears
The Bears are seemingly going to draft Caleb Williams with their No. 1 Overall pick. They could also take a receiver at No. 9. Could they sign a guy like Barkley to have a complete offensive skill-player overhaul? I wouldn’t count out the possibility. Ryan Poles has shown willingness to throw out money in the past. The additions would give offensive coordinator Shane Waldron some explosive options on offense.
