The Giants have moved to the next phase of the GM search by interviewing their front runners for the job for a second time. The organization has made a strong list of nine candidates, but only three were interviewed twice.

Whoever is hired as GM, the ownership would give the candidate complete freedom to reshape the organization, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. No matter who is hired, the Giants’ way of operating will change drastically.

Above all, signs are leading toward Giants ownership making a decision this weekend if all goes according to plan. Then they can finally go into head coach interviews.

Here are the front runners:

Bills’ Joe Schoen

The Bills’ assistant manager is considered bright and innovative, something the Giants desperately need. Schoen was the first candidate interviewed for the Giants last week and again on Tuesday. He has worked with analytics, personnel, and football operations. Schoen, 42, has been Bills general manager Brandon Beane’s righthand man since 2017. The perception so far is that he is the favorite for the job.

Chiefs’ Ryan Poles

Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles, 36, is the youngest candidate. He has risen through the ranks of the Chiefs organization with a focus on draft evaluations. Stars like Patrick Mahomes and Tyreke Hill were drafted by the Chiefs, thanks to the scouting by Poles. He also helped rebuild the offensive line for Kansas City this past season.

Poles could be the key to rebuilding the Giants’ putrid offensive line. He was interviewed the second time on Wednesday.

49ers’ Adam Peters

Peters, 42, has been working in the NFL for 18 years. He started off as a scouting assistant in New England, then ran the drafts for Denver for eight years, then was hired immediately by John Lynch and the 49ers in 2017. However, with Lynch being an inexperienced executive at the time, Peters was there to help him through it.

Peters was considered the most indispensable member of the organization. He has helped make the 49ers competitive every year and has a Super Bowl appearance so show for it. Peters was interviewed for the second time on Thursday.
