Cheeseheads, rejoice, as the Packers and the city of Green Bay have done what many believed wouldn’t happen. The 2025 NFL draft will be at Titletown. The state of Wisconsin is already buzzing with the news as many football fans in the state celebrate. Some, however, are voicing their concerns about the selection. After all, it is the NFL’s smallest host city. But if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find Green Bay should meet draft accommodations.
The Green Bay Metropolitan Area isn’t the biggest city, in fact just over 107,000 people live there. But the surrounding cities/areas such as Appleton, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Door County, etc. offer similar housing options and most will be within an hour drive. One could even stay in Milwaukee if they wanted to. And for a city that small to easily fill up over 80,000 seats for each home game as well as thousands in the surrounding area, it likely won’t be too much of a big deal with two years of prep time.
“The Draft has become a prominent offseason event hosted in different cities with spectacular locations across the country, and we are excited to work with the Packers and Discover Green Bay to bring the 2025 NFL draft to Green Bay and iconic Lambeau field,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said confirming the selection of Green Bay.
Packers president Mark Murphy also released a statement regarding the NFL’s selection.
“This is an incredible day for the Packers, Greater Green Bay and the entire state of Wisconsin as we are excited and honored to be selected to host the 2025 NFL Draft.”
Green Bay doesn’t have the glitz and glamour of say a New York or Los Angeles and it doesn’t try to. It’s a charming midwestern city that takes pride in its rustic and blue-collar life that breathes through the city’s lungs. And for true NFL nerds and historians, there may be no better city outside of Canton. Still, the NFL hasn’t really tried anything like this until now. For better or worse, it should be a fun and interesting experience.
