There are no longer any unbeaten teams in the XFL after the Guardians edged out the DC Defenders. The win also means Orlando has finally cracked the win column. The loss prevented the North from going unbeaten in a weekend filled with interdivisional matchups.

GUARDIANS 37, DEFENDERS 36

On paper, this game should’ve been a blowout in DC’s favor. The only unbeaten team in the XFL loses to the only winless team on April Fool’s Day. Quintin Dormady showed up and showed out for the Guardians, completing 27 of 34 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns. Dormady also rushed for three more touchdowns on the day. DC still had a chance to avoid the upset but missed a 63-yard field goal attempt on the final play of the game. With St. Louis and Seattle still within striking distance, this loss could be huge for the XFL North playoff race.

BATTLEHAWKS 24, ROUGHNECKS 15

If the XFL North leading Defenders hit a bump in the road, the XFL South leading Roughnecks are in freefall. Houston was playing without its starting quarterback and the Battlehawks made them pay. A.J. McCarron tossed three touchdown passes without an interception, and St. Louis kicker Donny Hageman nailed an XFL-record 59-yard field goal as St. Louis coasted to the 24-15 victory. Houston has now lost three in a row after starting the season 4-0. St. Louis is a game back of DC for first place in the XFL North, but, unfortunately both of the Battlehawks’ losses came to the Defenders, so St. Louis needs some help to take over the top spot in the divison.

SEA DRAGONS 24, RENEGADES 15

Has anyone turned a ship around faster than the Seattle Sea Dragons? Seattle started the season 0-2, but they have responded reeling off five straight wins. Former Cowboys backup quarterback Ben DiNucci showed the other football team in the Metroplex how good he is. DiNucci may still live in the Dallas area, but he torched his hometown team for 266 yards and a touchdown pass to former NFL standout Josh Gordon. Seattle is now tied with St. Louis for second in the XFL North, but one of those two early season losses was to the Battlehawks, so they currently lose the tiebreaker.

VIPERS 26, BRAHMAS 12

The fourth game of the weekend featured two of the more inept teams in the XFL. Vegas quarterback Jalen McClendon threw for 264 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Vipers beat the Brahmas 26-12. The only bright spot for San Antonio was 96-yard kick-six by Fred Brown, the first kickoff return for a touchdown this season.

XFL NORTH STANDINGS

  1. DC Defenders 6-1
  2. St. Louis Battlehawks 5-2
  3. Seattle Sea Dragons 5-2
  4. Vegas Vipers 2-5

XFL SOUTH STANDINGS

  1. Houston Roughnecks 4-3
  2. Arlington Renegades 3-4
  3. San Antonio Brahmas 2-5
  4. Orlando Guaridans 1-6

WEEK 8 PREVIEW

The big matchup for week 8 wraps up the weekend as DC takes on Seattle with first place in the XFL North potentially up for grabs. Going into week 8, it’s entirely possible either DC, St. Louis or Seattle will be in first place once the weekend is over. St. Louis takes on Vegas in the first game of the weekend. The XFL South teams make up the football sandwich as Arlington heads to Orlando, and Houston looks to rebound in San Antonio.
