The Astros have obtained and brought back just about their entire squad from a season ago, and even those they did lose. They replaced that player with someone just as good, if not better. Our projection for this team is higher than some others (zips has them at 90 wins). There may be a flaw that actually causes an opportunity in 2023, and that’s that Lance McCullers Jr. won’t be available for the start of the season. However, that actually opens up a spot in the rotation for Hunter Brown.

“I came into camp thinking the opportunity was there to make the rotation regardless,” Brown said Thursday. “So, I mean, nothing really changes for the way that I prepare and things like that. If we want to repeat as champions, we’re going to need Lance, and hopefully he can bounce back as soon as possible. I came into camp trying to break the rotation anyway, and that’s exactly what I’m going to try to do.”

Some may say that the strength of this team team is the pitching. Based on the mixture of young and experienced guys both in the bullpen and in the rotation. Those who say its the strength, may just be right. However, the lineup of this team shall not be overlooked. Jose Altuve had a monster year in 2022, Alex Bregman is coming off a good year after two down years and Yordan Alvarez makes the LF/DH platoon really good.
