ESPN Adam Schefter reports that the New England Patriots will be without tight end Hunter Henry for multiple weeks. The injury stems from a drill in practice. But with the injury only to be a couple of weeks, the Patriots are expecting to have Henry in time for the opening game with the Miami Dolphins on September 12th.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did not provide much comments on Hunter’s injury. But, he did provide some comments on Henry,

“”Hunter has participated in everything he’s been able to do since he’s been here, so he’s gained a lot of experience in the time he’s been here. I would say he’s day to day,”

Bill Belichick

With the injury being a couple of weeks, he could play in the final preseason game against the Giants. However, with the timetable of a couple of weeks, it looks to be more in line with Henry returning week 1 of the season.

Throughout his career in the NFL, Henry has been plagued by injuries. In 2017 Henry suffered a lactated kidney. The following year Henry did not see the field as he was recovering from a Torn ACL in minicamp. In 2019 Henry suffered a knee fracture which kept him out for multiple weeks. Then last year, Henry was placed on the COVID 19 reserve list.

Impact of Hunter Henry’s Injury on The Patriots

At this point, the Patriots are rather lucky that the injury occurred during camp and not the season. But, considering Henry’s past with injuries, the addition of tight end Jonnu Smith will be important as a starting option.

Also, with the injury, the only direct impact is going to be Henry will be out for the preseason. So, the best timetable for Hunter Henry’s return is for the start of the season.
