The craziness of the coaching carousel continues as the Huskies hire Jedd Fisch away from Arizona, per Action Network’s Brett McMurphy. When former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer departed for Alabama. Many names had been thrown around including Fisch, Oregon OC Will Stein, former Washington OC Ryan Grubb and even a fantasy hire in Pete Carroll.

Through three years with the Arizona Wildcats, Fisch turned a 1-11 team in 2021 into a 10-3 team in 2023. This past season they had been highly regarded as one of the best teams in the Pac-12. Obviously, outside of perennial powerhouses Washington and Oregon. Like many teams, the Wildcats are no longer in the Pac-12. They’ll be headed to the Big 12 without their coach from 2023.

The Wildcats had an opportunity to give him a new contract but it apparently wasn’t a priority. Which is mind-boggling considering that he brought them back to relevance realistically for the first time since 2014. That was the last time that Arizona had 10+ wins. In 2023, Fisch led the Wildcats to just their fourth 10+ win season in program history. A season that was capped off by a 38-24 win over Oklahoma in the Valero Alamo Bowl.

Fisch has many connections to the city of Seattle. He was not only the Seahawks QB coach in 2010, but the Arizona Offensive Coordinator is Brennan Carroll, the son of legendary Seattle figure Pete Carroll.

With the Huskies, Fisch will have his work cut out. Nearly 40 players have either graduated, entered the transfer portal, de-committed or retired in less than a month. Although, Fisch will likely bring some players with him, it looks to be a massive rebuild job. One that may take a couple of seasons to get the Huskies back in the title picture.

According to Bruce Feldman, the deal between the Huskies and Jedd Fisch is worth seven years for an average of $7.75 million a year.
