Could Pete Carroll Be Targeted To Replace Kalen DeBoer At Washington?

It’s been a wild week for football coaches everywhere. It all started with the Titans firing Mike Vrabel as their head coach. Then came the eruption. The Seahawks fired Pete Carroll, Nick Saban retired, Bill Belichick was fired and the list goes on. It was rumored that Pete Carroll would remain with the Seahawks in an advisor role, but could Washington poach him away? Kalen DeBoer is now gone and the Washington job is open.

There’s no doubt that Carroll still has fun coaching, even at 72 years old. When on the sidelines, he’s got the energy of a kid in a candy store. It’s been a while since Carroll has coached at the collegiate level but it could be a viable option. He hasn’t made himself available to coach at the NFL or collegiate level yet but is still open to coaching.

Hear me out, Pete Carroll would be a good option for many reasons:
A- He could mentor a new crop of coaches within College Football. He’d kind of do what Nick Saban has done with guys like Dan Lanning, Steve Sarkisian, Kirby Smart, Lane Kiffin, and many others. Groom them to be a head coach then go out and lead a program on their own. You could let him coach for several years until someone is ready to take over or let him coach for as long as he wants.
B- He comes with a great winning percentage. Both, at the NFL level and collegiately. Coming off a trip to the College Football National Championship, that’s exactly what the Huskies will look for. An experienced head coach who knows how to win. The Athletic department would not want to have their first season in the BIG 10, be a rebuilding year. If they get too far behind, they may stay behind for a while.

“I don’t know that,” Carroll said when asked if he envisions himself coaching again, via ESPN. “I’ve got plenty of energy for it and thought and willingness, but I can’t imagine there’s a place, the right one. I don’t know. I’m open to everything, but I’m not holding my breath on that. … So if that happens, it happens. We’ll see. I really don’t what to tell you about that yet.”

Maybe Washington is the right one for Pete Carroll, it’s right there in Seattle and they have an incredible crop of talent. He wouldn’t be too far away if the Seahawks needed help finding a coach. He could continue to build the culture for the Huskies.

On the flip side, he is 72 so he wouldn’t be there long. They probably would want to have a younger coach with the way that the coaching carousel is headed. The early favorites to take the position are Washington OC Ryan Grubb, if he doesn’t follow DeBoer, Arizona HC Jedd Fischer and Kansas HC Lance Leipold.

Maybe it’s something that the Huskies consider, it wouldn’t hurt their organization. It’d keep the fans happy.
