For a team that was sent packing at the end of the divisional round last season after falling to the eventual champion Chiefs, the Jacksonville Jaguars found themselves with much more to be excited about than to be upset about and dwell on. This was the start of something big for the Jaguars, and it is only going to get bigger for them. Here is our Jacksonville Jaguars 2023-2024 Preview.
Part of that glimpse came the week before, after overcoming a 27-0 deficit to the Los Angeles Chargers, winning that game 31-30. This team has come a long way since their horrid Urban Meyer days, whom they replaced with Super Bowl-winning coach Doug Pederson. But how will they fair against the field this season? Let’s take a look
Key Losses
The Jaguars lost the likes of RT Jawaan Taylor, DE Arden Key, WR Marvin Jones, and TE Chris Manhertz. All in all this is not too bad of a departing group from the Jags considering what they brought back or brought in.
Key Additions
Most notably for the Jaguars, wasn’t even a guy they got this offseason. WR Calvin Ridley was acquired by Jacksonville from Atlanta last offseason but served his year-long gambling suspension so he hasn’t technically suited up a game for them yet. When he plays, he is one of the best route runners in the league, and in this pass happy offense and with a Star QB in Trevor Lawrence throwing him the ball, he is bound to get back to that old form. The Jags also added RT Anton Harrison, TE Brenton Strange, RB Tank Bigsby, K Brandon McManus, and OLB Yasir Abdullah, among others.
Players to Watch For
TE Evan Engram – Engram finally burst out of his shell last season, putting up career high numbers with 73 catches and 766 yards. While targets will likely go down with Ridley on the field, he still should have a good year.
QB Trevor Lawrence – This is my dark horse MVP candidate. In a rankings video a few weeks back, I put Lawrence at 3 behind only Mahomes and Burrow, and I am doubling down on it before the season starts. Trevor Lawrence will establish himself as a top 5 QB in this league and will stay there for the majority of his career.
