Jaguars vs. Colts Week 10 Preview

Jaguars vs. Colts Preview
Brian Spurlock/USA TODAY Sports

The Colts (4-5) are coming off of a dominant rushing attack against the Jets in week 9. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game. Carson Wentz is also showing signs of settling into the Colts offense, limiting mistakes and staying efficient at moving the ball. Meanwhile, the Jaguars (2-6) have won 2 of their last 3 games. Despite that, their offense only scored 9 points in their most recent game. This week 10 match-up is shaping up to be a very one sided affair. Let’s take a look at where each team stands before the game.

The Colts

The Colts offense finally seems to be settling into a rhythm after struggling earlier in the season. That rhythm appears to be relying on an elite rushing unit and throwing the ball to Michael Pittman. The Colts have shown that when this works, they have the ability to win games. The combination of Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines could prove to be lethal to a struggling Jaguar’s rush defense. However, the Jaguars rising star Josh Allen could be trouble for the Colts’ passing offense. Carson Wentz has struggled when pressured. Allen could make life very difficult for Wentz on Sunday. The Colts need this win to get to .500 for the first time this season and to stay relevant in the AFC.

The Jaguars

It’s no secret that the Jaguars offense has struggled this season. Their offense only put up 9 points against the Bills. Trevor Lawrence only threw for 118 yards in that game. Lawrence is showing some signs of improvement, but his play is hindered by a lack of offensive weapons. Lawrence’s receivers aren’t making it easy for the Jaguars to score touchdowns. Against a Colts defense that has shown it can stop struggling offenses, there isn’t a lot of reasons to be optimistic for the Jaguars in this game. The Jaguar’s offensive line looks completely outmatched by DeForest Buckner and Darius Leonard. Don’t expect the Jaguars to score a lot of points in this game.

A One-Sided Affair

The Jaguars look to be completely outmatched in this game. The Colts offense is heating up and Carson Wentz looks to be getting comfortable in a blue uniform. The Colts rushing attack will be difficult to stop, especially for the Jaguar’s struggling run defense. Jonathan Taylor is a dangerous power rusher and Nyheim Hines makes a reliable target through the air. T.Y. Hilton will also likely return to action this Sunday. Considering the struggling Jaguars secondary, they stand little chance of shutting down the Colts’ offense.

The Colts, on the other hand, appear to be trending in the right direction. Now at 4-5 and considering how the rest of the AFC is struggling, the Colts have a shot at a resurgence. That is all contingent on winning games however. This game is a must win for the Colts if they want to remain relevant and have a shot at the playoffs.

Final Predictions

The Colts will win this game, 31-17. Carson Wentz will throw for at least 250 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jonathan Taylor will have another 100 yard game and a touchdown. Trevor Lawrence will throw for 300 yards, but no touchdowns.
