The San Francisco 49ers have reached an agreement with Javon Hargrave on a four-year, $80 million. The new deal includes $40M guaranteed.
Hargrave cashes in with the second big contract of his career. Though, it is a deserved deal after the 29-year-old piled up 161 tackles and 23 sacks in 48 regular season appearances for Philadelphia over the last three years. The signing addresses a significant weakness on the team, the interior of the defensive line. At the same time, the 49ers steal a vital component of the Eagles’ defense. For years Hargrave has been known as a run-stopper, and he was the top available free agent not only at the position but in the 2023 class.
Javon Hargrave, 30, has recorded 329 tackles, 46 tackles for a loss, 37.5 sacks, 64 quarterback hits, six passes defended, and four forced fumbles in 111 game appearances (96 starts) through his seven NFL seasons with the Steelers and Eagles. He made the Pro Bowl in 2021.
His 17.2% pass rush win rate when he was lined up on the interior ranked third in the NFL behind Kansas City Chiefs’ Chris Jones and Houston Texans’ Maliek Collins. Slippery off the ball with an upfield burst, Hargrave can get to the quarterback in multiple ways.
More to come.
