After numerous rumors of Jim Harbaugh returning to the NFL, Harbaugh will stay in college and continue to head coach the Michigan Wolverines.
Michigan President Santa Ono released a statement from Harbaugh about his description of remaining at Michigan.
“I love the relationships that I have at Michigan,” Harbaugh said. “My heart is at the University of Michigan.”
Harbaugh’s tenure at Michigan got off to a rocky start without appearing in the College Football Playoff in his first six years as head coach. On the brink of termination, Harbaugh brought his Wolverines into the College Football Playoff in back-to-back years, along with back-to-back Big Ten Championships.
Harbaugh received interest in possible NFL head coach openings in the past two years as a product of his turnaround at Michigan. However, he has again rejected those offers to remain in college football.
One of those openings was the Denver Broncos head coach vacancy, as Jim Harbaugh had a virtual interview with the team. Before his return to Michigan, Harbaugh was the favorite to become the next Broncos head coach, but Denver will have to look elsewhere.
With his official return to Michigan, the Wolverines remain 2023 national title favorites as many players opted to return for another season in Ann Arbor.
The 2023 season won’t remain without controversy as Harbaugh is under investigation by the NCAA for Level II and Level I violations, which could lead to suspension due to not being direct with investigators.
