There's been a lot of criticism of Doc Rivers amid his 3-7 start.

JJ Redick burned some bridges this past week. On Tuesday, Redick went on an epic rant on First Take where he voiced criticism of Doc Rivers.

It’s clear that JJ is tired of the excuses. After most recently losing a game to the Ja Morant-less Grizzlies on TNT, Doc was quoted saying “we had some guys here, we had some guys in Cabo.”

The Bucks hired Doc as head coach after firing Adrian Griffin amid a 30-13 start. Since the hiring came as a surprise, the NBA community has been very critical of Rivers since taking over. He’s off to a 3-7 start, and people are starting to ponder if the criticism of Doc is justified.

However, ex-NBA and former players under Rivers came quick to his defense.

Rivers’ son, Austin Rivers, who was teammates with Redick and played under Doc with the Clippers, also had this to say in defense of his dad.

Whether you’re on his side or not, the criticism of Doc seems more than justified. Milwaukee firing Adrian Griffin was confusing from the start, and their season is now on the verge of unraveling. Even Rivers said himself earlier this week on SiriusXM radio “I told [Bucks ownership] ‘I don’t understand why you’re doing this.”

The fact of the matter is the Bucks are desperately grasping at straws to get a good head coach right now. They are in championship-or-bust mode. After firing Mike Budenholzer last May, they hired Griffin thinking his young mind would get the franchise back on track. While they were excellent offensively under Griffin, the defense was a glaring issue. So, they went and got a former champion in Doc Rivers, despite his long list of playoff struggles.

What’s perhaps most interesting is that Redick will be taking Doc’s spot on the NBA’s top broadcast team. Meaning we might get to watch JJ commentate a Bucks game in the playoffs. Should the chance arise, it will be interesting to see if Redick has an outward grudge towards Rivers and his coaching style while live on the air.
