Justin Fields’ future with the Bears has been in question all offseason. At one point not long ago, the Bears saw Fields as their franchise quarterback. The Bears even traded away the number one pick of last year’s draft to help build around Justin Fields. Now, a year later the Bears are finding themselves in the same position with possession of the number one pick. It appears that the Bears will draft Caleb Williams with the number one pick. If that happens, it will be the end of Justin Fields’ time in Chicago.
Fields may have already started severing ties with the Bears. CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli reported that Justin Fields no longer follows the Bears on Instagram.
It was initially unclear why Fields unfollowed the Bears, but the former first-round pick confirmed that he did remove the team from his Instagram. He explained to “The 33rd Team” what led to the decision.
“Why do people take social media so serious?” Fields began. “I still mess with the Bears, this and that. I’m just trying to take a little break [from football content]. I unfollowed the Bears and the NFL. I’m just trying to not have football on my timeline. I know y’all mess with a girl, [Equanimeous St. Brown] especially you. Just because you don’t follow the girl on IG, don’t mean you not messing with her.”
Fields said, “Man, it’s not even like that.” “It is something I would prefer not to have on my timeline. I’m heading out on vacation soon. I would rather not watch any football.”
After former general manager Ryan Pace selected Fields with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft, Fields had a tough rookie season under former coach Matt Nagy. Under coach Matt Eberflus and GM Ryan Poles, he has not improved as a passer as the team had anticipated.
The Bears’ decision on their quarterback situation is imminent, and teams around the league are speaking to the Bears about a trade for Justin Fields.
