Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic had some harsh words for Draymond Green following a loss to the Warriors on Saturday night.
“It’s sad. He didn’t learn anything”, Nurkic said to reporters during his post-game interview. “He’s going to knock somebody else again. Take everything back, what I said. He doesn’t deserve a chance.”
Nurkic and Green both received technical fouls for trash-talking each other after Green fouled Nurkic halfway through the first quarter of Saturday nights game.
The pair went back and forth throughout the game. In the third quarter, Nurkic slapped the floor and made a “too small” gesture toward Green after making a shot. Green went right back at Nurkic a few possessions later and slapped the floor right back at Nurkic.
Green told reporters after the game “You can’t be a nothing defender if you’re going to do that. You probably outweigh me by 70 pounds, and you get put in the rim? Got to be more careful.”
Warriors star Stephen Curry also had some words about the situation after the game calling Nurkic’s words “idiotic” and Curry claimed that Draymond was in his head.
Jusuf Nurkic and Draymond Green have a history going back to December 12th when Green struck Nurkic in the face. Green’s suspension was indefinite, causing him to miss 12 games. Saturday was their first matchup since that incident.
That was the second time Green was suspended this NBA season. The league suspended the 33-year-old for 5 games for putting Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a chokehold.
Because of Green’s aggressive behavior, the NBA made Green attend mandatory counseling to prove he could manage his emotions on the court.
Curry’s game-winning three with 0.7 seconds remaining allowed Golden State to sneak past Phoenix, winning 113–11. There will be no more regular-season meetings between the Warriors and Suns.
