After being bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers, longtime Cavalier Kevin Love is expected to sign with the Miami Heat. Although the deal isn’t yet finalized, Love himself has confirmed it’s in the works.
Love was the sole remaining member on the Cavalierss from their 2016 championship run. He has aged noticeably since then and his minutes have been dwindling as a result. In fact, almost all of Love’s numbers and stats are down across the board. The Cavs just didn’t have a place for him anymore. The divorce was inevitable, but at least mutual between the two parties.
The Heat, after getting flak for not making a move at the trade deadline, finally add someone to their roster. Although, this is probably not what Heat fans had in mind to move the needle. The Heat are currently the seventh seed in the East with their bread and butter being defense. They don’t have much of a choice, as they are currently dead last in points per game. Love has lost a couple steps in his age and was never a terrific defender to begin with. He doesn’t fit the blueprint of the team, but he could provide a spark on the offensive end.
However, Erik Spoelstra and his staff are some of the best in the business, so it’ll be interesting to see what plans they have in store for the power forward. Kevin Love and the Heat will likely ease Love into his role after the official signing, whatever that role may be.
