The 2023-24 English Premier League (EPL) trophy race is shaping up to be a real barnburner between five teams. We are starting down the home stretch of the 2023-24 season in the English Premier League (EPL) and we shockingly still have 5 teams with a legit shot in this title race.

Liverpool has a decent lead at the top, followed by 3 teams with 43 points, 5 points behind Liverpool. Manchester City, Arsenal, and Aston Villa. Then we have Tottenham in 5th with 40 points.

Each of these teams has favorable schedules to close out the season. We will look at the crucial games left for each of them and the players who will be pivotal to their journey to the EPL Title.

Liverpool 48 points

Liverpool has had an outstanding 2023-24 English Premier League season so far. For that, they are deservedly top of the table with 48 points. They are led, again, by the great Mo Salah, having another astounding campaign with 14 goals and 9 assists. Their striker, Darwin Nunez, has bounced back nicely this season with 7 goals and 6 assists. They have the goals on this team to be a champion.

Liverpool possesses two other fantastic playmakers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota that can help feed those two goal-hungry men at the top. Trent Alexander-Arnold can make any pass on the pitch and can feed it into the goal from any spot.

They still have a stone wall and a top keeper anchoring the defense in Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker as well. Liverpool has the weapons needed and the coach Jurgen Klopp to win it all.

Without further ado, here are the fixtures that are crucial to Liverpool’s 2023-24 EPL trophy run:

On February 4th, Liverpool visits the Emirates to face 3rd-place Arsenal and this one is loaded with title race implications. It’s also loaded with many stars!

About a month later, on the 9th, Liverpool, welcome the defending champions Manchester City to town. The talent on the pitch is absolutely bonkers in this one and it’s sure to be a 2023/24 EPL season classic! Liverpool will feel excellent about their title chances if they go 2-0 in these, great if they can pull off 1-1.

Fast-forward to the end of the month, you have three whoppers in a row on the old schedule. A 4/27 away bout with West Ham, a 5/4 clash at home versus Tottenham, and a 5/11 trip to Aston Villa. These are 3 tough top-5 battles. This Liverpool team should be able to win these with their talent.

They also get a decent cupcake game to end the 2023-24 campaign. With a 5-point lead going into February, Liverpool does control their destiny in this title race and should be favored to win it.

Manchester City 43 points

The defending champs, Manchester City haven’t been their usual dominant selves yet in this 2023-24 EPL season. Injuries are partly to blame. Their superstar behemoth striker Erling Haaland and their “Tom Brady”, Kevin De Bruyne, have been out for a large part of the season. De Bruyne is back now and Haaland is expected soon to help push for their fourth Premier League title in a row. A feat never before accomplished.

Haaland has still had a solid season to us mere mortals with 14 goals and 4 assists. Backup, equally lethal striker Julian Alvarez has added a stellar 6 goals and 6 assists. The pesky Portuguian, Bernardo Silva, and the British Messi, Phil Foden, make up a dynamic duo of creative footballers. Perfect for a Pep Guardiola system.

Oh, who’s the giant, Sergio Busquets-looking dude in the midfield? That’s Rodri and he’s the pitch general and the enforcer all in one. He quietly throws in 4 goals and 3 assists into the pile of Manchester City goals and assists throughout this team.

The defense packs quite the punch too and can anchor down when needed with the likes of John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, and a highly athletic, thunder-booted Ederson in the back. This team is more than capable of running the table and stealing another title from Liverpool.

Let’s take a look at the crucial fixtures they face down the home stretch of this campaign:

Manchester City have a winnable schedule before the legendary Manchester Darby coming on March 3rd, quickly followed by the earlier-mentioned away clash with Liverpool on the 9th. They get another stretch here to get healthy, hopefully getting Haaland back, if not already. They have an always epic duel with Mikel Arteta and the Gunners of Arsenal on March 30th at the Etihad.

Manchester Cityzens are hoping to be flying high on their way to witnessing another title for a couple of weeks before the always-pesky Aston Villa comes to town on April 3rd. The Villians are in the title race this year too, so they will be trying to spoil the fourpeat party. Then on the 20th, they face Tottenham and the City-killer Son Heung Min, for another pivotal, top-5 matchup away from home.

Man City then finishes the year with a title-defining home battle against West Ham. They are just out of the top 5, but will be fighting for a top 5 finish. The top 5 next season get a spot in the coveted Champions League with the other Big Dogs. The other teams notably get an easier last day of the 2023/24 Premier League season. Let’s see if the defending champs can do it again. They surely have the firepower to do so.

Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal

Arsenal 43 points

Arsenal looks to bounce back after a disappointing ending of the 2022/23 Premier League season for possibly the League title in 2023/24. The Gunners are loaded with a little more depth this year for a possible championship run and Mikel Arteta always has them playing hard. He has some talented players to work with too.

Some old faces in Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard. Saka has 6 goals and 6 assists, Martinelli has 4 goals and 2 assists, and Odegaard has 4 goals and 4 assists, all great numbers. Those numbers got them to where they got last season, but they faded at the end.

Arsenal added much-needed depth this past offseason in Kai Havertz and Declan Rice. Leandro Trossard doing a fantastic job being a super sub with 4 goals and 1 assist in this 2023/24 Premier League campaign. They have Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus as strikers with a solid 8 goals combined as well.

It is important to note though, that this team does lack on the defensive side compared to the other two title contenders. Hard to see this team coming out on top, but a top-3 finish is definitely in the cards for this talented team.

What are some of the crucial games left on the Gunners’ remaining 2023/24 English Premier League schedule:

Arsenal has a tough one coming up soon on February 4th with the league-leading, uber-talented Liverpool. It is in their building though, so some hope. That fixture is then followed up the next week with a toughie at West Ham.

The Gunners then face the defending champs in Manchester City at the Etihad on March 30th. Will they show they are up for the heavyweight fight that it’s going to be for the EPL Title? They then host Aston Villa on April 13th for a scrappy top 5 brawl.

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal can finish this 2023/24 campaign off strong with a win against a struggling Manchester United on May 11th. Hopefully, follow that up with a final day victory over a mediocre Everton and they could look up and very well be EPL title winners for the first time in twenty years.

Aston Villa 43 points

I love a team like Aston Villa being in the 2023-24 EPL trophy race. The underdog story is always a truly impressive one in a league as tough as the EPL. This team isn’t a slouch at all as well. They have some legit players.

Villa’s top man, Ollie Watkins, is having an absolute banger of a 2023/24 season with 9 goals and 9 assists! Douglas Luiz bringing the heat on defenses as well with 6 goals and 3 assists. Leon Bailey representing Jamaica proudly with 6 goals and 5 assists.

They also have John McGinn and Moussa Diaby forming a strong midfield and tossing in their 9 goals and 6 assists total. The math we just hit adds up to a lot of goals and that is why they are up with the big boys this season.

Let’s dive into Aston Villa’s remaining fixtures and see what they have to do to pull off what Leicester City did in 2015/16:

Aston Villa gets a favorable February and can get into title-winning form for their first heavyweight bout in March, a home match against Tottenham on the 9th. Win this, and you’re in great shape for a title underdog.

April is the toughest month left for the Villians. Starts with a trip to the Etihad to face the champs Man City on the 3rd. Quickly followed by an away fixture on the 13th with the 2022/23 title runner-ups, Arsenal.

They then got Liverpool coming to town right before the end of the 2023/24 EPL season on May 11th. Good luck. Leave it all out there on the pitch. To be the best Aston Villa, you have to beat the best.

Richarlison, Tottenham

Tottenham 40 points

That Leicester City underdog team that won it all those years back, had a prolific goalscorer in Jamie Vardy. Tottenham has a shot in the 2023-24 EPL trophy race because they have a similar goalscorer. It isn’t Harry Kane anymore either.

It’s Son Heung-Min. He currently has 12 goals and 4 assists, but he could easily double that in the season’s home stretch. That could go a long way in helping Tottenham get over the hump and win the whole damn thing.

Tottenham have some talented players on the pitch around Son as well. He is sometimes joined by the speedy Brazilian, Richarlison. They also have plenty of creative impact in the midfield with Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, and Pedro Porro. This team can contend with the title offensively.

What is Tottenham facing for this mountainous climb they have ahead of them if they want to get that illustrious EPL Title?

If you take a gander at Tottenham’s remaining schedule for the 2023/24 English Premier League season, you will see that they have a decent shot at this if they can string some wins together against weaker competition. They don’t face a top 5 team until March 9th and that’s away at Aston Villa. That’s a winnable one for this team.

Tottenham then travels to Liverpool on May 4th, towards the end of the year, for hopefully a chance to cement their spot with a legit chance at the 2023-24 EPL Trophy. Tottenham can control one thing, themselves. Just go out there and win the fixtures that talent is favored to win and you have a real shot at this!
