The Los Angeles Lakers playoff chances have taken a serious hit with LeBron James’ injury. James suffered a foot injury in the third quarter of their most recent win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. His status remains unclear for the remainder of the season, but he’s currently sidelined for at least two weeks.

James could be heard saying he heard a “pop” as he fell on the floor on his back foot during the game. The 38-year-old James somehow returned to the game, where he finished with 26 points and eight rebounds. After the game, he could be seen noticeably limping.

LeBron James’ Injury Timeline

Shams Charania of the Athletic first reported that the injury to the Lakers star could be more serious than originally thought. As per his report, there is fear within the organization that he will miss substantial time.

On Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the team will reassess their star in the coming two weeks. The team will wait to see how he responds to treatment before making any official announcement. Until then, James is out indefinitely. is return will likely depend on how the team is faring in their playoff hunt.

Lakers Playoff Hunt

The Lakers are currently a half game back of the tenth spot, which would get them into the Play-In Tournament. The new leading scorer in the NBA has provided a tremendous amount of scoring power for the Lakers this season, averaging almost 30 points a game. The team is on a three game winning streak, revamped by the trade deadline, which saw them acquire young talent giving the team plenty of depth.

Heading into a back-to-back against the Memphis Grizzlies and the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team can’t afford to lose a player like James to injury. The Lakers wil have to rely on their newfound depth and some exceptional play by Anthony Davis to keep the ship afloat.
