LeBron James Plans to play for Team USA during 2024 Olympics

Future NBA Legend LeBron James wants to have at least one more go-around for Team USA. The Athletic’s Shams Charania was the first to report that James would be joining the roster for the 2024 Olympics.

According to Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, James has spoken to Stephen Curry and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics and Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, and they are all “prepared to commit” to Team USA along with LeBron James.

Other NBA Players who have already announced their interest to play include Devin Booker, Damian Lillard, De’Aaron Fox and Kyrie Irving.

James has played on three Olympic teams in 2004, 2008 and 2012. Team USA took Bronze, followed by two Gold Medals with LeBron on the roster. He did not play in 2016 or 2020, but the star-studded Americans still managed to take gold, meaning they are now the four-time defending Olympic champions.

Team USA has remained the team to beat in the Olympics, despite falling short twice in the FIBA World Cup. The U.S. lost 113-111 to Germany in the semifinals of this year’s World Cup and then suffered a 127-118 overtime loss to Canada in the bronze medal game, causing it to finish off of the podium once again. Granted, the team doesn’t have the star power that they will have in the Paris Olympics.

When the Olympics roll around James will be 39, meaning that it will most likely be his final opportunity to represent his country at the highest level. As a 19-time All-Star, four-time NBA MVP, four-time NBA champion, four-time NBA Finals MVP, two-time Olympic gold medalist and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron has essentially nothing left to prove or accomplish.

It’s unlikely that any team could ever rival the 1992 Dream Team, but the 2024 Olympics roster is shaping out to be it’s own Dream Team of sorts. If all the players listed above end up playing, it will be one of the most talented rosters that the US have ever put on the hardwood. Not only would Team USA be favorites to win, they would be expected to blow out other teams.
