LeBron James

We’ve been here before. LeBron James is undecided on his future with the Los Angeles Lakers. That doesn’t mean he’ll leave or stay. It just means he has chosen what he’ll do. One thing we do know, he’s unlikely to retire. In the off-season, we saw LeBron James address those rumors:

Now, that was almost a year ago but with Bronny James set to enter the NBA Draft and LeBron still playing at a high caliber level. He has a player option for the 2024-25 season with the Lakers. The King is not ready to make that decision quite yet and he doesn’t have to.

As James said Tuesday, right now he isn’t concerned with what the future holds, he’s more concerned with spending time with his family and friends:

LeBron James was asked about his future after the Game 5 loss to the Nuggets and he told reporters, “I don’t have an answer … to be honest. I haven’t given it much thought.”

He also stated that he wasn’t going to answer a question on if it was last season with the Lakers. Three options could happen.
A. LeBron James accepts his player option and stays with the Lakers.
B. He could decline the option and sign with a contender.
C. He declines the option and signs with the team that drafts Bronny.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, LeBron has until after the draft to decide if he wants to accept/decline the player option. According to Woj and LeBron’s agent Rich Paul,  “the idea of them playing together is not a priority; it’s not foremost, at least any longer, in LeBron James’ mind.”

It’s reported that the Lakers want LeBron and are willing to offer him a three-year, $164 million extension. At this point, retirement should not be considered in the future for LeBron James. At least that depends on the health of his body. If he can still give the game his all then he won’t retire. He was one of the best players in the league with averages of 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 54 percent from the field and 41 percent from deep in 2023-24.

He became the first player in NBA History to record 40,000 points in a career. No matter what he chooses to do about his team for next season. We know that LeBron is expected to give it at least one more run in the Olympics.
