Jarred Vanderbilt came up huge for the Lakers with a 15-point, 17-rebound performance. He also showed great hustle and energy, playing hard all game long. He defended the NBA’s leading scorer in, Luka Doncic, holding him to seven points under his average.

Dennis Schroder scored 16 and had eight assists in place of an injured D’Angelo Russell, while Anthony Davis scored 30. Lebron James chipped in with 26 points and eight rebounds.

James seemed to suffer a foot injury in the third quarter but fought through it and finished the game. The Lakers need him to be at his best if they want to make the playoffs.

The Lakers had a hard time scoring in the first half, but they came back strong in the second. They were able to keep the Mavericks from scoring, and they capitalized on their chances when they did. The Lakers need to continue playing like this to make the playoffs.

The Playoff Picture

The Western conference is still very tight. There is only a three game gap between the fourth and 13th place teams. The Lakers will need to keep playing well in order to make the playoffs. With the win over the Mavericks, they have now taken over 11th place pending results from the Trail Blazers and Thunder.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham stated that the team’s goal is to get the sixth seed to avoid the Play-In tournament. Analytics say the Lakers must win 16 of their 22 games to do this. They are off to a good start with a win against the current sixth seed, the Mavericks.
