For the first time in NBA history, a player recorded a 60-20-10 game; that player was Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Dončić in a come-from-behind overtime game against the New York Knicks, Tuesday, Dec 27.
Luka Dončić shot an impressive 21-31 from the field and 16-22 from the line. The 23-year-old had a career-high in points and rebounds while breaking the franchise record for points in a game. He joined James Harden to become the player to record 60-point triple-doubles, but Dončić doubled the number of rebounds Harden had.
When only looking at his points and rebounds, Dončić became the only point guard ever to record a 60-20 game while also having ten assists, genuinely historic.
“I’m tired as hell; I need a recovery beer,” Dončić said postgame.
The Mavericks needed all the help they could get as they found themselves down by nine with 27 seconds left in regulation. After a Knicks turnover and clutch shotmaking from Spencer Dinwiddie, Dallas was down by three with four seconds left. Dončić was fouled to prevent a game-tying three, but after hitting his first free throw, he intentionally missed the second and recovered his miss to hit a clutch jumper to force overtime.
From the opening tip of overtime, Dallas controlled the final five minutes to steal a 126-121 win on a historic night.
Luka Dončić play has not been short of MVP caliber as he’s averaging 47.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 9.7 assists in his last three games; Mavericks are 3-0 during that span. It’s not the first time Doncic has made history this season.
TL//DR: Luka Dončić makes NBA history with 60-20-10 game
