Man U VS Everton Match Review

Everton traveled to the red side of Manchester as both teams met in the third round of the FA
Cup. Frank Lampard’s men have failed to win any of their matches since returning after the
World Cup break. While Manchester United are four wins from four since their return. Here’s
how this match went:

1st Half

Manchester United started off the game on the front foot. They controlled possession and kept Everton at bay.

Antony confirmed the Red Devils’ dominance with a goal four minutes into the game. Rashford got the ball on the left flank, drove at his marker before playing in a low, driven cross to the back post that Antony tapped in from close range.

Two minutes later, Martial found himself with time and space on the edge of the 18 yard box but his shot went just wide of Pickford’s net.

Everton soon grew into the game and Demarai Gray gave De Gea his first test of the match and the Spaniard came out on top.

Connor Coady equalized for The Toffees after 14 minutes. Onana showed great strength to win a duel against Casemiro, slid in Maupay who redirected the ball near post. De Gea failed to deal with the shot and the former Wolves skipper was there to convert.

Antony had another opportunity on the 30 minute mark but his shot was blocked.

A minute later, Rashford took the initiative to drive his team forward. Iwobi failed to control a pass which left the English forward with acres of space to run into. He had options but chose to test his countryman with a venomous shot from distance which Pickford palmed out for a corner.

In the 39th minute, Eriksen tried to bend one into the top corner but it skimmed the cross bar.

Man United went into the half time break on the ascendancy but still needing improvements if they were to come out victorious in this match.

2nd Half

From hero to villain in the space of an hour for Connor Coady. Rashford took Coleman to the byline again and whipped in another low, driven cross that Coady tried to deal with but it went into his own net. United lead 2-1.

Doucoure drove into opposition territory, found Coleman on the overlap but his shot was parried by De Gea. Varane also made an important block from Mykolenko’s shot from close range.

Soon after, Bruno’s piledriver was tipped over the bar by Pickford.

Gray and Coleman showed great interplay to break United’s press. Gray found himself 1v1 in the box Vs Malacia and beat him with ease. He found Calvert Lewin at the near post who converted from two yards out but it was soon deemed offside.

In the 89th minute, Rashford and Pickford met again, this time via a free kick and Pickford came out on top again.

Gray worked a shooting angle onto his left foot but his shot was too timid and easily saved by De Gea.

Garnacho won a penalty for his team with a minute and a half to go. Rashford found himself against Pickford once again but this time he came out on top and secured qualification for his team from 12 yards out.

The Reds go marching into the next round of the prestigious FA Cup while Frank Lampard and Everton are still searching for that victory to really kick start their season.
