Manny Machado’s Ankle Injury

Manny Machado left the game against the Colorado Rockies with an ankle injury. Machado was trying to beat out a little dribbler out in front of home plate. It looked like Machado hit the top of the base and rolls his ankle. The first reaction showed Machado in serious pain but was bale to walk off the field with help. As the Padres MVP caliber third baseman was putting some weight on his ankle the Padres Fans can only hope for the best. This injury did happen in the first inning and the Rockies during day games water the field before first pitch. Maybe, just maybe the first base was still wet making it slick enough for Machado to slip. Initial X-Ray scans were done immediately and came back negative of any fracture.

With Fernando Tatis Jr. still on the shelf for the foreseeable future this injury could prove offensively problematic. Machado was having an MVP type year when he took his heavy fall. The padres are going to have trouble filling up his offensive stats but will be surely missed with his gold caliber glove.

Padres Options

The options for the Padres to replace him would be sliding over Ha-Seong Kim to third base and calling up C.J. Abrhams up from AAA. Another option could have Austin Nola play second and slide Jake Cronenworth still having Ha-Seong Kim at third. This move would most likely call up Luis Campusano from AAA to split time at the catcher position. I doubt A.J. Preller makes an reactionary trade to try and fill in this ugly injury to Machado. Padres are in a battle with the Los Angles Dodgers currently for the top spot in the N.L. West.
